Well Race Fans Saturday night at BIG O Speedway 3118 Hwy 85, Ennis, TX on 9/11/21. Actually left me speechless. That’s right old motor mouth himself had a loss for words. I don’t know where to start so, I will start at the beginning. Once again we started the night off by honoring the veterans and their families in the crowd this time due to the happenings 20 years ago, we added the first responders and their families as well. The colors were presented by 2 Marine Vets, and they raised the flag to half mast to honor those lost so many years ago but not forgotten.
Usually, I don’t talk about the heat races but to not mention the quality of races that were heat races would be a disservice to the racers. Every heat race was a hard fought win and reiterated how important they are as to set up the starting grid for the features. These features were so competitive you wanted a good starting spot. Now we get to the features. The Texas Winged Modifieds set the standard for the competition by having one of their best races of the year at BIG O. Kodey Keimig put his #27 in victory lane by barely holding of Keith White and his years of experience in the #1 and hard charging Billy Bachmeyer’s #38. Next we had the NEVER FORGET 40, a 40 lap feature for your RenDel RV USRA Outlaw Modifieds. Let me tell you the competition was so deep any of the top 10 had a legitimate chance to win it with the lead changing hands just about every lap. Greg Muirhead #22 prevailed for a win with Justin McCoy #410 breathing down his neck and Dennie Geiber #15 crossing the finish line on both their tails. The late models had a new winner after 4 weeks with 00Z Trey Langley winning, Sloppy Hogg 2nd and the young gun Ortanik Mikel finishing on the podium. Once again Blake McKenrick won the kids Hornet feature with Kaylee Boyce in her #18 2nd, and Cameroon Dodd, after winning his football game earlier, come out for the feature and scoring 3rd. The Muirhead brother Tyler took advantage of a lap car and wheeled his Mac Haik Ford Eco Mod into victory Lane with Devon Bowles #4d taking advantage of a rookies mistake getting 2nd and Ricky Slack #23 gaining 3rd. With a full field of 21 Ruston Cattle Co USRA factory Stocks you knew it would be off the chain and believe it was with 3 or 4 wide the norm the races fought a 15 lap feature that made you wish it had been 40 as well. Once again, the top 7 all had a legitimate shot at the win. It was 1 man standing on top, it was the #40 of Michael Bowles who knew he had been in a race with Kenneth “Pork Chop” Chamberlain #70 was banging on his back bumper just waiting for an opening that never came and Colton Tanner #96t finishing 3rd. The BTS Concrete Thunder Cars class started wIth a rush for 1st and the intensity never faded. William Butch Kayser #19r battled his way to the win with the Brand brothers in hot pursuit that being Josh #34 and Ben #72. Now for the most intriguing part of the night. BIG O SPEEDWAY has brought the FIGURE 8 back to this legendary track. Big Poppa Ronnie Miller showed everyone how it is done. His #RM1 won the class of the field because of its driver. He drove it like an old veteran and made for some exciting close calls at the intersection with Boy Boy Larsen #5b showing he had FIGURE 8 racing in his blood scored 2nd and that young driver that happens to be a young lady, Peyton Bowles #40, in 3rd. Here’s to keeping the FIGURE 8 as a regular race. Want to give a shout out to Alan Lindow who joined me in the booth. Hope we do it again. Candy call and 50/50 were again a big success. Join us this Saturday for some more great racing. Heavy D signing out.
